The new game from RGG Studio
Stranger Than Heaven is the new adventure from RGG Studio, published by SEGA: the makers of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, first revealed in 2024 as Project Century. A fifty-year saga of people with nowhere to go and their desperate struggle to find a home, told by the studio behind some of gaming's most intense battles and heartfelt drama.

San Francisco, 1915: Makoto Daito
The story begins with a boy sneaking aboard a mysterious ship in the dead of night. His name is Makoto Daito, born to an American father and a Japanese mother, persecuted for his Asian heritage. After losing both parents and finding himself alone, he risks it all to reach his mother's birthplace: if the United States won't accept him, maybe Japan will. He soon learns the voyage across the Pacific is anything but a free ride, and that this one choice will change his life forever.

Five eras, five cities
The story unfolds across a Japan that may have existed in another life, in five cities modeled after real locations of their eras: Kokura (Fukuoka) in 1915, a foundry town of hard-driven, fiery workers; Kure (Hiroshima) in 1929, a port dominated by the country's largest naval arsenal and by yakuza organizations; Minami (Osaka) in 1943, western Japan's biggest entertainment district in a world at war; Atami (Shizuoka) in 1951, the postwar seaside getaway; and Shinjuku (Tokyo) in 1965, Japan's most iconic pleasure district.

Combat that feels alive
Surviving means doing whatever it takes. You don't just control Makoto: you move his left and right sides independently as you attack and defend. Follow a jab with a crushing blow, send enemies flying with a charged attack, tackle them while they stagger or pin them down and unleash a flurry of punches; block with one hand and counter with the other. And across the eras you master and enhance knives, hammers, katanas and more.

Life of a showman
In the earliest chapters, Makoto's mentor discovers his hidden talent for music, and he ends up producing shows across Japan. You gather rumors on the street to scout singers and performers, and head into town to collect sounds —the swish of a broom, a snoring neighbor, passing trains, even the grunts of the enemies you fight— to craft original tracks. Then you choose the setlist, arrange the band, assign the cast and design the production, lighting included, in a rags-to-riches rise.
